2.4.7 Focus Visible
When something has keyboard focus, people must be able to see where it is.
Who it helps
Keyboard users, including many people with motor disabilities.
Failures we see most
- CSS that sets outline: none with no replacement
- Focus styles too faint to notice
How it gets tested
The scanner compares each element's look before and after it gets keyboard focus, including focus rings drawn on wrappers.
Automated checks can find failures of 2.4.7, but they cannot confirm that a page passes. A specialist still reviews it by hand.
How we fix it
Our tools find the CSS rule that removed the focus outline and restore a visible one.
